Leadership...
is learning
At CLI, we believe that our work is capacity and competency-based, but more importantly, it is community-specific. Our curriculum relies on an in-depth understanding of each client or the specific community we are working with. Leadership development does not happen in a vacuum; context is critical.

- Satisfaction
- Growth
Our client partners work closely with the Cooperative Leadership Institute to ensure co-alignment of these Five Keys of Excellence. Three disciplines are achieved with each client partner:
- Create a Maven Group of innovators and actors that co-create consistent company-wide messaging and programs regarding the Five Keys of Excellence
- Establish accountability measures and outcomes that are reviewed and ratified by Grassroots Group and implemented by the Maven Group
- Develop leadership and management capacities essential to achieving 100% fulfillment of the Five Keys of Excellence
Our First Steps
The Cooperative Leadership Institute was founded at Virginia Tech in 2003. It was founded to broaden access to leadership development through learning technology and web-enabled curriculum and systems.
